Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Hugh Hewitt, James Dobson – all of these (and many more) have come out against the idea of John McCain as the Republican nominee for President. “Come out” is actually a very kind of way of describing the venomous reaction they have to Senator McCain’s campaign. Some have called his potential nomination the demise of the Republican party. Others have gone have so far as to declare they will vote for Hillary Clinton if he is the Republican nominee.
Despite the vocal and repetitive attacks on McCain by his own party’s leadership and political talkheads, the voters are voting for him. It is apparent to me that a disconnect lies between those with a microphone or television show and those who are actually choosing.
I have a theory.
If Mr. McCain is the end of the Republican party as we know it (as the pundits assert) but the people are voting for him anyway, maybe the people are tired of the Republican party as they know it. Could it be that a decade of corruption, scandal and bad political and social choices have caught up to them? Maybe the face of the Republican party is changing and those we who have carried the banner of political commentary are missing it. Is it possible the Republican party of Reagan’s era is no longer ideal for those under the age of 50 who call themselves Republican?
The day after Super Tuesday Hugh Hewitt (one of the voices of opposition) posted an article entitled “Seven Reasons to Support the GOP’s Nominee“. The next President of our country could potentially place seven new judges on the Supreme Court. I am confident that the judges placed by a White House under the control of Senators Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama would not act to overturn Roe v Wade or make any effort to regulate stem cell research.
Senator McCain the Republican is not perfect by any measure (my concern is his support of embryonic stem cell research). I agree with his vote against President Bush’s tax cuts. I appreciate his willingness to say that we are destroying the environment. I am very glad that he supports the banning of assault weapons. Preventing a politician from buying the White House or a congressional seat – where shall I sign up, Mr McCain? And, praise the Lord, he is against torture. Despite these things that cause the Republican establishment to attack him so vehemently, he does seem to be the person that Republicans outside of Washington DC most want to see in the White House. At the end of the day, that is a scenario with which I am okay.
As may be clear at this point, I am not a traditional Republican.* I have listened to the voices of those who say they represent the Republican party. In my opinion they are wrong, biased and blind to the reality of the current political situation. I am in support of John McCain for President. I voted for him in the primaries and, should he become a nominee for President, I will vote for him in the national election.
Your choice for McCain is an obvious alternative. As ‘ none of the above’ does not apply to the ballot selection, in reference to Hillary and Barack, we must settle for a more maturing veteran of the political scene. I, likewise am a registered Democrat who thinks like a Republican-Conservative. But our preferences, Lauren, are determined by the Bilderberger Group of multi-millionaires who secretly pull the strings at their annual meeting which is neither documented or subjected to media coverage. But since the American electorate is unaware of their presence and influence in our daily lives, we must, for the sake of arousing unnecessary suspicions, let sleeping dogs lie. Likewise, the Council on Foreign relations, a membership completely remote from judicial scutiny, takes control of our economic status. Lauren, within this decade, we will lose our Constitution and have it replaced by the World Charter. If we hope to survive, the change will be beyond our control. Already we have lost our standing as the world’s prime currency. We may have to convert to the ‘Amero’ dollar which combines our monetary value with both Canada and Mexico. Just think of it…foreign powers are now monopolizing our markets and reigning supreme on Wall Street. Our debt to other nations must be backed with the Euro as we have dropped considerabkly the value of our dollar (now worth about 70 cents). But on the bright side, you’re hanging in there and that is good! Final warning to all enemies at home or abroad: Watch out for Lauren’s stilletto’s!
